ROLLS-ROYCE CARS

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Limited was started by Henry Royce in 1906 and Charles Rolls (Charles Rolls) founded a Rolls Royce Limited.
Rolls-Royce is called "Rolls", "Roller" and "Double R", but at the company's headquarters in the British Derby, companies were usually contacted by "Rice".
"Rolls-Royce in ..." often states that nothing is better.

History

Independent Era

In 1884, Henry Royce began business in electronics and machinery. In 1904, he built his first car "Royce" at his Manchester factory. On May 4 of the same year, he was introduced to Charles Rawls, and the two reached an agreement. Royce was responsible for producing cars, and Rawls was responsible for sales. At the same time, there is a clause in the contract stipulating that the new car is named "Rolls Royce". The company was established on March 15, 1906, and moved to Derby in 1908.

Silver Charm (Silver Ghost, 1906 Year - 1925) the company has brought a great deal of praise. It uses a six-cylinder engine and produced 6,173 vehicles in total. In 1921, the company's second plant in the United States, Massachusetts, Springfield City opened to meet the needs of local sales. A total of 1701 "Springfield Ghosts" were produced there. In 1931, the plant closed after 10 years of operation. The first armored vehicle in Britain was produced based on Yinmei's chassis and equipped in World War II.

In 1931, Rolls-Royce acquired its rival, Bentley, who was in financial difficulties during the Great Depression. From then until 2002, except for the water tank grid and some small details, Bentley and Rolls-Royce are no different.

In 1914, the company's first aero engine Eagle was launched. In World War I, about half of Allied aircraft used Rolls-Royce aero engines. By the end of the 1920s, aero-engines had become Rolls-Royce's main business.

Henry Rawls’ final design of the Merlin aero engine was launched in 1935, although Rawls had died in 1933. This engine was developed from the R engine. In 1931, the seaplane equipped with this engine broke the record at almost 400 miles per hour. The Greyback Falcon aero engine is a powerful V12 engine that was installed on many aircraft during the Second World War: Hurricane fighter, Spitfire, mosquito bomber (twin engine), Lanka Stir bomber (four engines), Wellington bomber (dual engines). It also made the American P-51 Mustang fighter the most successful fighter at the time. A total of more than 160,000 units of grey-backed falcon engines have been produced.

In 1946, both Rolls-Royce and Bentley production plants were moved to Crewe. In 1959, Mulliner Park Ward in London began producing bodywork for Rolls-Royce.

After the Second World War, Rolls-Royce made significant progress in the design and manufacture of gas turbine engines. "Dart" and "Tyne" turboprop engines have become an important factor in shortening the flight time of intercontinental routes. Dart engines are equipped on Argosy, Avro 748, Friendship, Viscount Harold, and other models of aircraft, while the more powerful Tyne is equipped on Atlanta, Transall, Pioneer, and other models of aircraft and SRN-4 hovercraft. Now, most of these aircraft can still fly normally.

Among the jet engines during these periods, Rolls-Royce's RB163 Spey was equipped on Trident, BAC 1-11, Grumman Gulfstream II, and Fokker F28 aircraft.

In the late 1950s and 1960s, this was the golden age of the British aero-engine manufacturing industry and reached its peak after the merger of Rolls-Royce and Bristol-Sidley in 1966. (Bristol Sidley was established after the merger of Armstrong-Sidley and Bristol in 1959). Bristol’s main factory is in Filton, near Bristol. Its main business is the manufacture of military aircraft engines. It has produced Olympus engines for Concorde aircraft.

The Era Of Vickers

Due to the development of the new RB211 fan-turbo engine, the company was caught in serious financial problems. As a result, the company was nationalized by the Heath government in 1971, and the state provided a series of financial subsidies. Douglas launched the DC-10 aircraft defeated). In 1973, the automotive business was divested by the company and a separate entity company, Rolls-Royce Motor Company, was established. The main aviation and marine engine business remained state-owned until 1987 when it was successfully privatized by Rolls-Royce PLC. This was also one of the many privatization reforms of Thatcher's government at the time.

In 1980, Rolls-Royce Motors was acquired by weapon company Vickers. A year later, Rolls-Royce AG was also acquired by Vickers for 576 million pounds.

Today, Rolls-Royce engines are still used by many civil and military aircraft in the world. The company plays an active and effective role in reducing engine noise and pollutant emissions, and participating in the establishment of international regulations to protect the social environment.

The Battle  between Volkswagen and BMW

In 1998, Vickers decided to sell the Rolls-Royce automotive business. Although the Volkswagen Group's bid reached 430 million pounds, far higher than BMW's 340 million pounds bid, the final winner was BMW, BMW has provided engines and other components for Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars for many years.

This is far from the end of the story. Rolls-Royce AG, which makes aero-engines, decided to license the Rolls-Royce brand to BMW instead of Volkswagen. It has had a lot of business with BMW Motors recently. Volkswagen bought the right to use the "flying goddess" logo and water tank grille (ghost mask), but there was no way to manufacture a "Rolls-Royce" brand car. Similarly, BMW does not have the right to use the car logo and radiator grille. BMW bought the Rolls-Royce car name and the "RR" trademark for 40 million pounds. Many comments believe that this is the most valuable essence of the entire transaction. Popular opinion is that they just want Bentley.

Eventually, BMW and Volkswagen reached an agreement. From 1998 to 2002, BMW will continue to provide automotive engines and allow Volkswagen to use the Rolls-Royce brand until January 1, 2003. Since then, only BMW can produce "Rolls-Royce" cars, and the agency in Hong Kong was transferred from the original Yingzhi and Dachangxing to Sime Darby, and the Asian headquarters was moved to the BMW headquarters into Kwa Wan, but BMW The Rolls-Royce model produced before the start of the owner is responsible for the maintenance service of the second agent in Hong Kong, Dachanghang and Bentley, Jinlong Automobile, not Sime Darby. The Rolls-Royce/Bentley Motors division bought by Volkswagen only produces "Bentley" cars. Rolls-Royce's convertible cars and Cornniche cars have been discontinued since 2002.

The management of BMW Motors announced on May 8, 2005, that the sales of Rolls-Royce cars fell by 26% in six months. If this situation continues, BMW will consider selling Rolls-Royce Motors. But with the launch of Ghost and Wraith to attract the younger generation of buyers, sales of Rolls-Royce cars have been able to pick up.
